Copyright notices and review
Draft — awaiting adoption and activation. These are proposed procedures. The copyright notice destination is unavailable on this preview; do not send a legal notice to a preview address. This page does not confirm a registered agent or an operating notice service.
Designated agent contact
Notice destination unavailable. Actual agent name, mailing address, telephone and email must be configured, checked against the Copyright Office designation, and activated before live use.
What a copyright notice should include
If you believe material available through FuzzyCode infringes your copyright, provide:
- A physical or electronic signature of a person authorized to act for the owner of the allegedly infringed exclusive right.
- Identification of the copyrighted work, or a representative list if several works at one online site are covered.
- Identification of the material claimed to infringe or to be the subject of infringing activity, and information sufficient for us to locate it, such as the exact page or asset URL. Identify each target clearly.
- Information reasonably sufficient to contact you, such as your address, telephone number and email address, if available.
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that the complained-of use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are authorized to act for the owner of the allegedly infringed exclusive right.
Notices may be sent by email and need not use our form. We may request missing information or clarification. A notice is an allegation, not a determination of infringement. We may remove or restrict identified material while reviewing a supported claim and inform the affected subscriber.
Request review or submit a counter-notice
If your material was restricted in error, you may request ordinary review, explain permission, identify a wrong target, or provide a correction. An ordinary review request does not automatically become a sworn counter-notice.
A formal counter-notice must come from the subscriber or a person with appropriate authority and include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material removed or disabled and the location where it appeared before removal or disabling.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good faith belief the material was removed or disabled as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address and telephone number; a statement consenting to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district where your address is located, or, if outside the United States, for any judicial district in which FuzzyCode may be found; and a statement that you will accept service of process from the person who provided the original notice or that person's agent.
A counter-notice is a legal statement. We forward its signed contents and contact information to the original claimant or their agent. Consider obtaining legal advice before signing. A parent acting with appropriate authority does not have to claim ownership of a child's copyright.
After receiving a qualifying counter-notice, we promptly forward a copy to the claimant and inform them that we will replace the material or cease disabling access in ten business days. Replacement or restored access follows the applicable 10–14-business-day window after receipt, unless our designated agent first receives notice of a qualifying action seeking a court order restraining the subscriber's infringing activity, or an applicable Copyright Claims Board proceeding. Corrections and delivery retries do not restart an already qualifying clock. Independent restrictions and the subscriber's own publication choices may still apply; restoration does not determine ownership.
Repeat infringement
Our proposed policy provides for termination in appropriate circumstances of subscribers who are repeat infringers. We review supported distinct incidents, corrections, withdrawals, disputes, permissions and evasion. An allegation alone is not an automatic strike. There is no promised number of free violations or requirement for a court judgment before appropriate action.
Actions may include warnings, restrictions on the responsible profile, or termination of the responsible subscriber account when necessary. A shared IP address alone does not establish identity, and siblings are not labeled infringers because a family subscription loses access. Termination must enforce access restrictions and prevent unintended future subscription renewal. Correction, appeal and legal correspondence remain available through the designated contact even when ordinary access is unavailable.
Policy version: copyright-policy-v1-2026-10-04. Human adoption and release verification are required before these proposed procedures become live policy.
